About Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships
The International College of Advanced Education has been delivering Australian Apprenticeship training since 1998, and delivers more Australian Apprenticeship training in Hospitality and Tourism than any other training provider in the Northern Territory. Our understanding of the needs of trainees, business and government enables us to deliver successful vocational training in any context.
Our commitment to trainees and the organisations they work for has seen us develop successful education relationships/partnerships with some of the biggest employers in the Northern Territory, providing business with real advantages through effective staff education.
Australian Apprenticeships combine employment with structured training, resulting in a nationally recognised qualification.
Australian Apprenticeships are 'competency based', meaning Australian Apprentices complete their training whenever they have reached the skill level required. It is also possible to start an Australian Apprenticeship while still at school.
Australian Apprenticeships training can be delivered on-the-job, off-the-job, or a combination of both.
The training for an Australian Apprenticeship is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation, and is publicly funded, so there is no training cost to the employer. User Choice arrangements mean that employers can negotiate the timing, location and nature of the training, and are able to negotiate purchase of flexible training over and above what is publicly funded.

Australian Apprenticeship Incentives for Employers
To relieve some of the financial burden on employers and to make recruiting an Australian Apprentice more rewarding, there is a range of incentives for employers who take on and train an Australian Apprentice or Trainee. Incentives are paid directly to the employer’s bank account.
Some standard incentives for employers include*:
- $1375 for an employer of an Australian Apprentice who commences a Certificate II
- $1650 for an employer of an Australian Apprentice who commences a Certificate III or IV
- $2750 for an employer of an Australian Apprentice who completes a Certificate III or IV.
There is a range of additional incentives for employers of Australian Apprentices, in areas such as Women in Non-traditional Occupations ($1100), Innovation Education Packages ($1210), and Rural and Regional Skills Shortage ($1100).
For more information on incentives that you may be eligible for is available from the Australian Government's Australian Apprenticeships website. A summary of the Australian Government incentives for Australian Apprenticeships is also available. (PDF)
