About our Indigenous Programmes
ICAE has delivered successful Workplace English, Literacy and Learning (WELL) programmes in communities, engaging participants in literacy and language education that relates directly to their employment, empowering participants with greater language ability in their workplace.
We deliver Business Administration training to a number of New Apprentices and Trainees employed in remote community councils, utilising a range of delivery mechanisms including face-to-face, self-paced workbooks and online.
Significant incentives are available for organisations that employ STEP participants, and the International College of Advanced Education can also facilitate New Apprenticeship opportunities across a broad range of industry sectors.
Structured Training and Employment Programme (STEP)
ICAE has delivered seven very successful STEP programmes since 2000. STEP is aimed at introducing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people back into the workplace, and is made up of four weeks job education, which includes:
- Communication
- Interview techniques
- Updating resumes
- Teambuilding
- Goal setting
Following this, participants are given the opportunity to complete nationally accredited qualifications in:
- Hospitality
- Tourism
- Business administration
- Security
- First aid
- Retail
Participants undertake four weeks of structured work experience throughout the program with host employers, and then are job-matched with appropriate employers to secure employment. Once employed, the International College of Advanced Education mentors participants in the workforce, ensuring their successful transition back into full-time employment.
More than 80% of participants who have completed the ICAE programmes have gone on to further study or were offered work in a range of enterprises and industries including hospitality, tourism, commercial cookery, retail, and office administration. ICAE STEP programmes are acknowledged as achieving amongst the best employment and training outcomes of any STEP programmes in Australia.

Indigenous Employment Program
The International College of Advanced Education has conducted two very successful Indigenous Employment Programmes, in 2002 and 2003 at the Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn at Jabiru, Northern Territory. Through these programmes ICAE delivered education towards Certificate II in Hospitality (Operations) and Tourism (Guiding). These programmes were offered to Indigenous people, in accordance with the Intercontinental Hotels Group Indigenous Employment policy.
35 students commenced the programmes over the two years, and 28 were offered positions at the Intercontinental Hotels Group properties in the Kakadu Park region. These results rank the International College of Advanced Education IEP programmes amongst the most successful in Australia
